UoB Postgraduate Teaching Centre
1st Dec 2014New Contracts
Clegg Construction Limited have appointed Summit Electrical as the Electrical Contractor for the design & build of a new Postgraduate Teaching Centre at the University of Birmingham.
The £10m centre, which will open its doors in early 2016, will be devoted to the teaching of postgraduate courses in the Business School, including MBAs.
It will contain several distinctive features for students of Business School postgraduate programmes, including a Harvard style lecture theatre.
The high quality facilities will provide a dedicated space for the Business School’s postgraduate students, and will include communal areas for studying and group work, which will look out over the green heart when that is created following completion of the new main library. The new building will be neighboured by Muirhead Tower, and has been designed to ensure it is complemented by its neighbour, which is the tallest building on campus other than the Joseph Chamberlain clock tower. The plaza area in front of the Postgraduate Teaching Centre will provide pedestrian access into the Muirhead Tower and out into University Square and Chancellor’s Court.
The Electrical Installation contract will see Summit responsible for the detailed design fully co-ordinated with the Mechanical Services Contractor for a complete M&E Services Design and Installation.
The main Electrical works will begin in March 2015 with an overall completion of October 2015.
